20 Best Episodes Of Better Call Saul

8. Waterworks (Season 6, Episode 12)

Better Call Saul
Netflix

Like Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul rarely had happy hours, and Waterworks, a gripping portrait of two souls unable to escape their past, is no exception. Looking back, it may just be the show's most gruelling episode.

A stunning showcase for a career-best Rhea Seehorn, who must contrast Kim's desire for a new life with her moral calling to admit her sins, the show's penultimate episode sends Saul to his coldest depths yet, rebuking his ex and in his coldness cementing his inevitable downfall (his cons against Carol Burnett don't help).

Watching Kim grapple with the facts of who her ex-husband has become brings about one of the show's most heart-rending shots, as Kim breaks down on a bus and recalls the day she realised Jimmy McGill is no more.

Brutal in its bluntness and exciting in its call backs -- we get one last look at Breaking Bad-era Saul, and a final appearance from the great Aaron Paul -- Waterworks is Saul at its most amoral and soul-crushing.
