Though John Shea had left the series at the end of season one, his version of the iconic supervillain Lex Luthor continued to cast a dark shadow over the show's remaining seasons.
"The Phoenix" continues to put the incredible chemistry between Dean Cain and Terri Hatcher on display, as the episode shows Clark's first attempt to ask Lois out on a date. The playful banter is at an all-time high, but the main event on display is the return of John Shea as Lex Luthor.
Shea continues to dominate in his performance as Luthor, playing the dastardly yin to Superman's heroic yang.
