20 Best TV Comedy Shows Of The 21st Century

13. Archer

The Office
FX

Unburdened by the content restrictions of network television, this animated adult effort is free to get as gory, dark, and sweary as it wants in its visually gorgeous satire of vintage spy flicks.

Of course, the show soon turns to a perverse spin on the workplace sitcom as you get to know its amoral stars better, but this surreal and often anarchically hilarious series starring H Jon Benjamin of Bob’s Burgers fame manages to fuse Rick and Morty’s subversion of well-worn genre tropes with Arrested Development’s dense, ambitious scripting to incredible effect. Put it this way—the show is funny enough to have survived not one, but two gimmicky season-long experiments in switching genres without losing its core audience.

Now that’s skilful.
