20 Best TV Episodes Of 2016
9. The Bicameral Mind - Westworld
Westworld's best episodes, for me, were its pilot and its finale. They had the hardest jobs - creating and selling this world, then successfully tying everything together - and both did so in hugely effective ways, creating hours (or an hour-and-a-half) of television that were densely-packed with action, character, and a maze of narrative twists and turns.
The finale wins out here, purely because of how well it stuck the landing. After nine episodes of piling mystery on top of mystery, and countless theories from fans, it all could've unravelled here.
Instead, most loose ends (sorry Ashley) were tied up, the characters getting some resolution but with plenty leftover for Season 2, and an expansion of the world teased too. Despite being 90 minutes long it didn't feel bloated, and managed to be a thoughtful, ambitious, and exciting climax to HBO's new big thing.
