20 Best TV Episodes Of 2016
3. Fish Out Of Water - BoJack Horseman
There's no show on this list quite like BoJack Horseman, which takes an animated, anthropomorphic horse - who is also a washed-up sitcom actor - and turns it into one of the most compelling and emotional mediations on celebrity, Hollywood, and depression around, while managing to be both insanely weird and utterly hilarious.
And even by BoJack Horseman's standards, there's no episode quite like Fish Out Of Water, or, as it's come to be known, 'the underwater episode'.
Save for a brief opening sequence, and a moment at the end, it's an entirely silent episode, which marks a big departure from a show that usually has rapid-fire dialogue.
Sans dialogue, it instead relies on a wide array of Chaplin-esque visual gags, which it finds plenty of by sending BoJack to a prestigious underwater film festival. Without words, the score is left to set the mood, and the episode also features some truly beautiful animated sequences.
It leaves on Oceanic-joke unmade, but also manages to convey something much deeper about the way we try - and often fail - to communicate, in particular BoJack.
