20 Best TV Episodes Of 2016
2. San Junipero - Black Mirror
Black Mirror made a hugely successful return to our screens this year, making the leap from Channel 4 to Netflix but losing none of Charlie Brooker's razor-sharp (and scarily prescient) satirical wit.
Playing around in various genres, it's interesting that a show that spends so much time in the near-future set its very best episode in the 1980s. And, for a show that is often about the horrors of technology, this offers a surprising note of hope.
At its heart, San Junipero is a love story. The reserved Yorkie (Mackenzie Davies) and the outgoing and daring Kelly (Gugu Mbatha-Raw) meet in a nightclub in the titular party town, and are immediately drawn to each other.
The pair have an electric chemistry together, and we follow their journey (it's best not to say too much about the plot) over the course of one of the most enjoying, surprising, and beautiful hours of television this year.
