Daredevil Season 3 was one hell of a return to form for the series, and it had some truly standout moments. The prison escape that concluded episode 4, the Daredevil vs 'Daredevil' fight in six, the thrilling three-way battle in the finale.

So why Karen?

When operating at its best, Daredevil does a number of things brilliantly. It's not only capable of the astonishing action sequences that've really made its name, but also of a propulsive narrative, of compelling character-driven drama, of packing a surprise alongside a punch, and of taking things to a whole new level of darkness.

Other episodes have some elements, but Karen showcases ALL of them, and yet, unlike the others, it also never fits into what we *expect* from a Daredevil episode. And it does so by focusing not on Matt Murdock himself, but Karen Page. We take a trip to the past to finally get answers to what happened, and find they're as devastating as anything the show has delivered, while Deborah Ann Woll delivers on the dramatic potential she first displayed back in True Blood. It's the episode that stops this being just a superhero show, and instead makes it a much more human drama.

And then it still finds time for an exhilarating action set-piece, backdropped by some of the most evocative, symbolic imagery a Marvel show (or indeed movie) has ever conjured up.
