20 Best TV Shows Of 2015

1. Mad Men

Speaking of shows that were damn-near perfect in 2015, and the one that - thanks to going with the heart - nabbed the number 1 spot on this list, hello Mad Men. Really, what is there left to say about Matthew Weiner's stunning period piece that hasn't already been said over-and-over again in the last eight years? Does the second-half of Season 7 look fantastic? Of course. Is it extremely tightly-written? Naturally. Is the acting of all the main players absolutely great? Yep. Any plaudit that's been given to Mad Men during its run can be repeated here, and it's worth doing so, because 2015 unfortunately marked the end of the show. After the previous six-and-a-half seasons of beautiful brilliance, it had a very hard task on its hands to deliver a conclusion that was satisfying to all viewers. It's a credit to all involved that it achieved it. Despite all the theories predicting Don's demise, that wouldn't have really been Mad Men's way. Instead, it focused on his attempts to find peace within himself, but made sure to take him to the lowest depths first. On this journey to the finale (and really, Mad Men was always so interested in the journey) we had stunning work from Christina Hendricks as Joan, some wonderful moments from Peggy (Elisabeth Moss) and Roger (John Slatterly), and heartbreak for Betty Draper. It perfectly transitioned from depicting 60s America to 70s America, and these characters went along with it, each receiving not an end, but rather left to simply continue. However, this show really belongs to Don Draper, and Jon Hamm (it goes without saying) is once more incredible in the role as the ad-man. He's broken down, he still has the moments that make you despair for him, but somehow he manages to find hope and, eventually, peace. And then he (probably) comes up with that Coke advert, and an almost perfect series bowed out with a perfect ending. What was the best show of 2015 in your opinion? NCTJ-qualified journalist. Most definitely not a racing driver. Drink too much tea; eat too much peanut butter; watch too much TV. Sadly only the latter paying off so far. A mix of wise-old man in a young man's body with a child-like wonder about him and a great otherworldly sensibility.
