The Mandalorian is so much more than Baby Yoda, but it’s impossible to talk about it without first addressing Baby Yoda. Initially set to be CGI before Werner Herzog convinced them to not be ‘cowards’ and keep it as a real puppet, the character has taken the internet by storm and become a meme unto itself.

Away from Baby Yoda though, The Mandalorian is still thriving. While the Star Wars movies continue to be divisive (a trend The Rise Of Skywalker is unlikely to break), The Mandalorian and Fallen Order recapture the magic.

The weirdly fractured Disney+ rollout has likely done it no favours, but at least the Star Wars brand name means it’s guaranteed to pick up the audience it deserves.

Disney are no strangers to delving into their existing properties to create something new, and this seems like it could be a great direction for Star Wars in the future. Small, focussed stories set in an already rich world.
