20 Best TV Shows Of 2019

7. Fleabag

The Boys Homelander Queen Maeve
BBC

Fleabag had a decent first season in 2016, but returned for a stellar second in 2019. The self deprecating British sitcom was meta, hilarious, tragic and incredibly dry, and went from being a so so British TV comedy into one of the defining shows of the year.

Based on the one woman show from star Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Fleabag keeps the theatrical tones, the niche humour and absurd stylings of the stage while making the best of what television offers.

Fleabag is obnoxious and ever so slightly perverted, but it does it all with such charm that it becomes endearing. There’s a relatability which drives Fleabag onwards; it has a bit of an admission fee, asking you to just ‘get it’ at the door, but for those who do it’s unlike any other show around.

In true British style, Waller-Bridge has toyed with calling time on the show, so it might just go out at the very top.
