20 Best TV Shows Of 2019
18. Succession
Succession hasn’t quite gained traction yet, but hopefully going into Season Three it can pick up more viewers and earn the mainstream success it deserves. The show deals with the inside affairs of a media family, taking inspiration from the Murdochs and the Trumps.
In this time of fake news, mass manipulation and political tremors, Succession strikes a chord with our culture. To think of it as a cheap cash in on the current environment would do it a massive disservice though; it’s a modern day West Wing, set where power truly lies.
Though it perhaps isn’t quite at the level of Aaron Sorkin and Martin Sheen, Succession is definitely laying the groundwork for longevity. Through Brian Cox and Kieran Culkin especially, the show has some wonderful performances up its sleeve.
As for drama, the show is overflowing, whether it’s on a family scale or a global one. Perhaps the only good thing to come out of the fake news epidemic.
