20 Best TV Shows Of The Last Decade

19. Rick And Morty

The Leftovers
Oni Press

Created by the maverick comedy duo of Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon, the plot started life as a crude spoof of Back To The Future, yet at a relentless pace, this off-kilter show evolved into something so much more.

The central relationship between mild-mannered teen Morty and his sociopathic genius inventor granddad Rick is simply the jumping-off point for Roiland and Harmon to really do whatever the hell they want.

The list of highlights includes the two saving the world in an intergalactic version of American Idol, to Morty morphing into an Akira homage in the name of true love, to Rick being transformed into a pickle and taking down a nefarious criminal organisation while he's at it.

The nature of the show is always unpredictable, inventive, and filled to the brim with humour both juvenile and ferociously intelligent...oh, and only keeps getting better and better.
