20 Contestants Who Really Couldn’t Handle Takeshi's Castle

18. Roller Derby Fail

This game was described by narrator Craig Charles as "the Japanese version of the Grand National, but where every fence is Beechers Brook." When you add in contestants dressed in costumes resembling thoroughbred horses and their jockeys, impaired vision as a result of the ludicrous horse shell and roller skates for mobility, this level of carnage was frequently seen. Slow and steady often won the race, due to the sheer number of crashes in each heat. Roller skates, lack of control and speed equals pain for this poor contestant.

17. Dragon Lake Fail

The game is simple enough: swing from one podium and land on a smaller one further away. Keeping hold of the rope gives you a chance of being able to land on the other podium. This contestant gets his grip horribly wrong, as the only thing he ends up gripping is the bed of the water!

16. Poles Apart

This game is similar to Dragon Lake, but requires contestants to pole vault across the water and land on to the podium on the other side. Yelena Isinbayeva has nothing to worry about with this female contestant, who goes further backwards than she goes forwards and ends up needing to visit both a chiropractor and a dry cleaners.

15. High Rollers Fail

One of host Craig Charles' favourites, this is one of many challenges on the Japanese game show that was very difficult to beat, and failure often looks very painful with the sudden impact of bodies against the drums and how they fall. It helps if you stand on a roller, but this poor lady forgets and finds nothing but air, with painful results. Talk about getting folded up like an accordion!

14. Skipping Stones Fail

Skipping Stones is arguably the most famous Takeshi's Castle game, with the solid and loose stones causing many bone-shredding and painful moments. Many contestants ended up in the water, but it helps if you don't throw yourself in! This lady has a brain freeze, like the contestant in the previous gif, stepping on fresh air, landing in the water and leaving painful, permanent memories of the game on her side from the stone she was aiming for.

13. Gauntlet Fail

Dubbed by Craig Charles as "the assault course even the SAS won't do", Gauntlet combined a variety of obstacles to dodge or avoid, with a ridiculously narrow course, and was a race against time. The opening ghouls and pushed boulder were more designed to intimidate than eliminate, but this poor contestant gets cracked in the head by the boulder, slips and lands into the muddy water and much embarrassment.
