20 Doctor Who Actors Who Appeared in Sherlock

12. Joseph Long

Italian-English actor Joseph Long has crafted out a niche for himself as the go-to man for enthusiastic Italian roles on British telly e,g. he appeared as the owner of Gene Hunt's favourite haunt Luigi's in Ashes To Ashes. In 2008, he brought his particular talents to Doctor Who episode Turn Left as Mr Collosanto, an endearingly optimistic chap who Donna and her family have to live with after the whole of South England is destroyed (in a timeline without the Doctor). Chillingly, as the situation worsens, he and his family are taken away to "work camps" to make room for British families. In the unaired Sherlock pilot, Long played Angelo, Sherlock's old friend who mistakes John and the detective as a couple. In the televised version, however, the role was taken by Stanley Townsend.
