20 Doctor Who Facts That Will Blow Your Mind

6. Sarah Jane And K-9 Attempted to Launch Their Own Spin Off In The 80s... It Failed.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hu7OiJpnlUs That theme tune just says it all, doesn't it? Sarah Jane Smith stepped down as the Fourth Doctor's coveted companion in 1976 but the BBC attempted to capitalise on her post-Who popularity by launching her in her very own spin off. Needless to say, K-9 & Company was a one hit wonder in every sense of the word as it only ever got as far as its pilot before being canned by the BBC for reasons that probably have something to do with the fact that its opening title sequence was one of the worst in British televisual history. Seriously. It's even been voted as such. The first and final episode, aptly titled Girl's Best Friend, was eventually aired as a one off Christmas Special in 1981.
