17. ...And They Were Almost Exterminated From The New Series
After first appearing in the show on that cold winter's night back in December 1963, the Daleks have firmly established themselves as the Doctor's most formidable adversaries and that's an unrivalled trend they've continued (and them some!) throughout the revived series, too. Except.. they almost didn't. An ongoing - and heavily documented - licensing dispute between the BBC and Terry Nation's estate (because even the Daleks have got rights!) almost resulted in them being exterminated indefinitely when the show execs were publicly accused of trying to "ruin the brand of the Dalek". Ouch. Needless to say, everything worked out for the best in the end and the producers have been making the most of them ever since...
