20 Easter Eggs You Didn't Notice In American Horror Story

16.€œDominique€ Really Is A Cursed Song

A recurring theme throughout Asylum, the second season of American Horror Story, is a song called €œDominique€. Originally recorded by Jeanine Deckers, better known as €œSoeur Sourire€ or €œThe Singing Nun€, it's on almost constant rotation on the common room phonogram at the insistence of Sister Jude. Which isn't an example of poor taste on the Sister. Well, it is, but it's not just that. The song was recorded by Deckers to raise money for her convent's mission in Brussels; it became a hit, but every cent went to the Catholic church, so when The Singing Nun excommunicated with a lover she wound up being flat broke and in lots of debt. She eventually took her own life via drug overdose on March 29 1985, because of financial problems. That dark past likely played into the choice to include it in American Horror Story. The end of the name €œDominique€ is slang for €œDominique is having sex€, meaning it was often mocked for being accidentally risqué and blasphemous; very AHS.
