20 Most Exciting Fall TV Premieres

10. A To Z

What it's about: The ending of How I Met Your Mother was kinda sucky - on that, we think we can all agree. A To Z might just be the quirky sitcom to wash that bad taste out of our mouths, however, with a suspiciously similar high concept. Sons Of Anarchy's Katey Sagal takes Bob Saget's place as the narrator telling the story of a relationship that lasted exactly "eight months, three weeks, five days and one hour€, between hopeless romantic Andrew (Ben Feldman from Mad Men) and straight-laced Zelda (Cristin Milioti €“ fancy that! - the mother from How I Met Your Mother), who meet through the dating site Andrew works for. Expect hilarious misunderstandings, inside jokes, wacky characters (especially the central twosome's BBFs, played by Henry Zebrowski and Lenora Crichlow), and perhaps even half as much heart as the adventures of Ted Mosby and co managed. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-FKlRDYy_7o Why it looks good: NBC has a good track record for smart, warm sitcoms. Compared to their ridiculous gimmicky comedies like Animal Practice, anyway, which was an actual show about a monkey doctor that managed a full season a few years back. A To Z has a gimmick, albeit one that's grounded in the realities of a relationship with a sell-by date. That ticking clock may stop the show from managing quite as long a run as its contemporaries, but we reckon that ongoing mystery - why do these guys break up anyway? - will be enough to sustain things if the impressive cast somehow fail in that task. And hopefully Milioti doesn't die and get replaced by Cobie Smulders again.
