20 Incredible Star Trek Concept Art Designs You Need To See

2. USS Archer - Star Trek Online

Star Trek Online recently celebrated its 10th anniversary, however an early version of the MMORPG was in development as early as 2006. Veteran Star Trek concept illustrator John Eaves, fresh off the cancelation of Star Trek: Enterprise, was hired by Perpetual Entertainment as a design consultant. Eaves designed several new 25th century starships for the game before development was aborted in 2008.

Among these radical and unrealized designs was the USS Archer (named for Enterprise's Jonathan Archer), a Tahoe-class starship. While the ship would feature a number of Eaves' trademarks and influences from his own work on the USS Enterprise-E, the ship design was a brand new evolution of the familiar Starfleet aesthetic.

While the ship would never make it into the game, the USS Archer would see new light 12 years later when a fleet of late-24th century Federation ships was needed for the first season finale of Star Trek: Picard. Appearing in the episode "Et In Arcadia Ego, Part 2", the fleet of Inquiry-class starships are clearly modeled off Eaves' early work for STO.
