In 2017, John Eaves was once again tasked with redesigning the Starship Enterprise for Star Trek: Discovery's first season finale, "Will You Take My Hand?".

Eaves, along with Scott Schneider, William Budge, Todd Cherniawsky, and Tamara Deverell attempted to make Discovery's version of the Enterprise reflect both the aesthetic established in Discovery and The Original Series. The new design also pulled from various incarnations of the Enterprise from engines that resemble those of the NX-01 to aerodynamic fins like those present on Eaves' own USS Enterprise-B from Star Trek Generations.

While the designers attempted to keep this Enterprise as close to the original as possible, the profile was lowered to match that of the USS Discovery. Eaves' drawings also featured straight warp nacelle pylons like the original, but those were ultimately swept back when the ship was rendered in CGI and placed into the episode.
