20 Mind-Blowing Facts You Never Knew About Game Of Thrones

9. The Mountain Could Actually Crush Oberyn's Skull

The ending of Season 4, Episode 8 is one of Thrones' finest moments, seeing Oberyn Martell's skull crushed in by The Mountain and Tyrion subsequently sentenced to death. There were two main reactions. The first was "oh mercy, that was horrible." The second was painfully nitpicky - "that wouldn't be possible in real life." Well, to those smart-arses who said the latter, it turns out you're wrong. Time Magazine used science and discovered that The Mountain, who in this episode was played by the third strongest man in the world, would be capable of exerting the 520 pounds needed to crush a human skull. Yikes. Has it been mentioned yet that actor Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson is a really nice person and a great actor?
