1. There Was A Pilot Produced Before The Series Proper
Everyone knows A Study In Pink is the first episode of Sherlock. But not everyone knows that the version we got wasn't the first. Before the series aired, a sixty minute pilot episode was made. Following a similar plot, that serves as an eye into the development process. Most notably absent is the show's trademark on-screen text, with Sherlock simply narrating his findings as he sees them. The scope is slighter and the visuals a lot less inventive, but overall the essence of the finished show can be seen. Still, it feels like a first draft, lacking the unique flair that made it so popular. And, on a pickier level, Sherlock's hair doesn't look right. During production the episode was actually intended to be aired, but upon seeing it the BBC was so impressed they decided to have it re-done with an extra thirty minutes (this mainly included more of Sherlock's deduction and the Mycroft subplot). The pilot is available as an extra on the Series 1 DVD, or watchable below. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xtsdwg_ssherlock-2010-unaired-pilot_shortfilms What other Sherlock facts do you know?
