1. It Wasn't DVD Sales That Brought The Show Back

The commonly accepted reason that Family Guy was saved from cancellation hell twice is that the DVD sales were so forceful that it was clear to Fox there was a massive hunger out there for more Griffins. And while this, and a 100,000 strong online petition played a part, what really made Fox prepared to bring the show back was what normally represents the final death knell for a series, syndication.

Adult Swim had been airing the early seasons to massive success, with the late night Cartoon Network sometimes pulling in more viewers than network television. Rather than being the vague promise of viewership, this actually proved to Fox there was indeed an active audience who would tune in to new episodes. So maybe you shouldn't be as smug about your dog-eared Season 2 box-set.
