20 Mind-Blowing Facts You Didn't Know About Buffy The Vampire Slayer

1. There Were Going To Be More Spin-offs

Of all the facts on this list, surely the most mind-blowing is the one that the Buffyverse could have been even larger? Thanks to Angel, the Buffyverse is already 254 episodes of television long but it could have been even more extensive if all the various ideas for further spin-offs... span off. One was to be centred around Faith as she biked around the country, fighting monsters and finding herself, along with the help of sci-fi geek Andrew and Spike. Sadly, Eliza Dusku turned this series down to do a show called Tru Calling. Meanwhile, Spike, surely Buffy's biggest breakout character, was heavily rumoured to be starring in his own movie, potentially with a theatrical release. The idea never got going due to Whedon's other work commitments and James Marsters has now sadly said he doesn't think he could play the immortal vampire again so long after Buffy. While these two were just ideas, a series entitled Ripper, named after Giles' teenage nickname, was talked about seriously before the notion was shelved. Whedon had discussed the project with Doctor Who producer Julie Gardner and was planning to make it with the BBC. It would have seen Giles return to England to face more supernatural shenanigans, and would have focussed on his loneliness at being separated from the Scooby Gang. It was absolutely confirmed as happening at one time but news on the series has been very quiet in recent years. Yet there's still another Buffy spin-off that got even closer to being made. Buffy: The Animated Series would have been set in the middle of Season One and delivered new adventures for the teenage Buffy and her friends. Many scripts were written for the series and most of the original cast were set to reprise their roles - apart from Sarah Michelle Gellar - but Whedon could not get any network to pick the series up. He later called it his greatest regret about the series that this show never came about.
