20 Mind-Blowing Facts You Didn't Know About South Park

5. Imaginationland Was Originally Going To Be A Movie

South Park secrets
Comedy Central

Imaginationland was one of the only South Park episodes ever that actually took more than six days to make. In fact, Parker and Stone got to work on it over three months prior to the air date, and part of that is because it was originally intended to be a feature length film.

This would have been the second South Park movie, released eight years after Bigger, Longer, and Uncut, but they later decided it just didn't feel right presenting it that way. Instead, they decided it would become a trilogy of episodes aired over the course of three weeks. It still kind of feels like one long movie, though, and in fact a DVD was later released which paired all the episodes together as a feature film anyway. Comedy Central also came out with T-shirts and hoodies of Imaginationland, hyping it as a big event, and it became the most popular outing of that season.

Imaginationland is definitely one of the most creative works in South Park that isn't based on any recent event, and as great as the final product is, it's definitely interesting to consider how it might have been different if they fully fleshed it out as one long movie.
