That episode that made fun of Scientology made a huge splash and opened Comedy Central up to lawsuits, but it also had a major impact on at least one member of the church itself. In a 2013 appearance on the Opie & Anthony Show, Jenna Miscavige Hill, niece of Scientology Chairman David Miscavige, said she didn't know the story of Xenu until she saw the episode of South Park.

She explained that you don't really know about the details of Scientology's belief system until you reach a certain level in the church. "You have to take a certain amount of training [and] counseling, and it can take years," she said. So she was shocked to watch this episode and find out that the secrets the church had been holding from her for years involved spacecraft, aliens, and an ancient alien lord named Xenu.

Hill left the Church of Scientology in 2005.
