There's nary a character nor place name in The Walking Dead that's not some sort of reference, in-joke, or nod to something. For example: Rick Grimes comes from the fictional city of King County, Georgia, named for Stephen King €“ several of whose stories original showrunner Frank Darabont has adapted. Then there's CDC scientist Edwin Jenner, played by Noah Emmerich in the first season, who shares a name with Edward Jenner, the English scientist who developed the smallpox vaccine in the late 18th century. Morgan Jones' son is called is Duane €“ Duane Jones being the lead of the Night of the Living Dead. Oh, and in the 1830s, the settlement at the end of the Western and Atlantic rail road lines, later to become Atlanta, was called...€œTerminus.€
