Arrow shares a similar tone to Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy, but it is desperate to stay away from this set of well received movies. This was part of the reason for the introduction of Nyssa as an emissary of R'as al Ghul. While they could have used Talia, they opted for the lesser known daughter in order to avoid links to the character's introduction in The Dark Knight Rises. In DCs traditional canon of comics, Nyssa is the half sister of Talia - having been born in the 19th Century after an illicit affair between her father and a Russian woman. She becomes a hardened warrior in order to track down her elusive father, although she becomes disenchanted with his evil ways. The series has already shown that she is able to dissent from her father as she allowed Sara Lance to leave the League of Assassins despite this being the opposite of her father's wishes. Staying away from existing movie universes means that all of DC's characters could be used, and it means that fans get to see some of their favourite supporting comic book characters being brought to life.
