20 Mind-Blowing Facts You Never Knew About Arrow

13. There Are Tonnes Of Character References

Comic books are full of absurd and laughable characters €“ Amazo is an android who can adopt other heroes powers, Solomon Grundy is an unstoppable monster €“ yet both of these characters have been referenced in the show. Cyrus Gold, the first successful Mirakuru subject, is the alter ego of Solomon Grundy, and Dr Ivo's ship was named the Amazo. Amazo was created by Ivo in the comics, so the link between the characters was sure to have excited long term fans of the comic books. Oliver affectionately calls Thea 'Speedy,' but this is also Green Arrow€™s sidekick in the comics, although he has now been renamed Arsenal. Roy Harper, the Red Arrow in the show, has been renamed Arsenal following his Mirakuru fueled violent frenzy, and Oliver has called the name Speedy at him to calm him by making him think of Thea. The writers of the show managed to expertly interweave so many comic threads into this one character, and they have done this for countless others. The show has given modern interpretations to a myriad of well known, much loved, and underused heroes and villains from DC€™s catalogue of characters; it has included the well known ones like Deathstroke and Deadshot, as well as little known characters like Cupid.
