5. Meth Is Actually Rock Candy

It goes without saying that the meth in Breaking Bad isn't actually meth. TV may be an ever growing medium but it's not that visceral. As is normally the case, the prop meth (and there was a lot of it) was actually a repurposing of an everyday item; it was rock candy. The crystallised sugar was used in most appearances of the drug, even when characters were smoking, with the actors obviously not inhaling (there's very serious health risks with inhaling sugar).

Interestingly enough, this means that the on screen meth is not that dissimilar to the fake candy-meth merchandise produced to tie into the series. Now that's meta.
