After the Comic-Con meta joke in Lrrreconcilable Ndndifferences about the immediately cancelled Futurella, fans could be excused for thinking that was an original alternate title.
According to Groening, he raised a couple of different names; Aloha Mars and Doomsville. Now it may seem like they're only rubbish because we're so used to Futurama, but I wouldn't count on it; those names were resoundingly rejected. Thank goodness.
The final title comes from the name of a stall at the 1939 New York World's Fair that showed what life would be like in twenty years, so is actually a pretty apt name.
