20 Mind-Blowing Facts You Never Knew About The Simpsons

6. The Simpsons Love Citizen Kane (And Kubrick)

Kane

What pushed The Simpsons above other adult animations was it€™s constant references to pop culture. Everything has been parodied, from historical tales to the latest music acts (expect some Miley Cyrus dancing jokes this season or next), but for me it€™s always been the film jokes that stood out. With all eras of cinema represented, I€™d always wondered which movie had the most references.

Well according to the show€™s creators, that honour falls to Citizen Kane. The award may not quite match BFI€™s Greatest Film Of All Time, a title Orson Welles€™ masterpiece held until Vertigo snagged last year, but it€™s a worthy honour.

Kane is followed by 2001: A Space Odyssey, The Shining and A Clockwork Orange, leaving little ambiguity to the show€™s favourite director.
