20 Mind-Blowing Facts You Never Knew About The Simpsons

2. Al-Shamshoons Made Many Changes

Moes

The Simpsons has been translated into countless languages helping it get its worldwide popularity. Most of these are pretty straightforward dubs with a couple of names and phrases changed so they were actually funny in the new language, but for the Arabic version some more radical choices were taken.

Along with the pretty standard name changes (Homer becomes Omar, Bart become Abar and Springfield becomes Rabeea- Spring in Arabic), there were a fair few visual edits. Instead of Duff Homer drinks soda (and Moe€™s doesn't make an appearance at all) and anything pork related it replaced with beef. The family (the Al-Shamshoons) even go to a mosque instead of a church. Only fifty-two episodes were adapted, but after flopping with audiences only thirty-four saw the light of day.
