20 Mind-Blowing Facts You Never Knew About The Simpsons

16. Springfield€™s Questionable Location Was Always Intended

Springfield

Unlike the Seth MacFarlane produced counterparts, The Simpsons has always kept its hometown a secret. It borders states all over the US, has coastline, mountain ranges and oil fields and has even been referred to as being in a 51st State. But this ambiguity wasn't something that grew by accident.

It€™d be easy to assume this was something the show adopted, but Groening says different. He purposely chose Springfield as a name due to it€™s popularity - it€™s one of the most common city names in America - so the town would feel more like an everytown.

Although if that doesn't satisfy you, the Springfield that set that thought in motion was the one in Groening€™s home state of Oregon.
