20 Mind-Blowing Facts You Never Knew About The Simpsons
16. Springfields Questionable Location Was Always Intended
Unlike the Seth MacFarlane produced counterparts, The Simpsons has always kept its hometown a secret. It borders states all over the US, has coastline, mountain ranges and oil fields and has even been referred to as being in a 51st State. But this ambiguity wasn't something that grew by accident.
Itd be easy to assume this was something the show adopted, but Groening says different. He purposely chose Springfield as a name due to its popularity - its one of the most common city names in America - so the town would feel more like an everytown.
Although if that doesn't satisfy you, the Springfield that set that thought in motion was the one in Groenings home state of Oregon.
