11. The Show Involved Shooting 450 Pages Of Script In Just 6 Months
With a cast in place, and a director in the form of Jane Eyre helmer Cary Fukunaga, everything was set to go on bringing True Detective to life. But it was to be no simple task. Matthew McConaughey described making the show as, basically like a six month film, with one director, eight episodes, 450 pages... six months shooting on film. Though the project brought him the most praise of his career to date, its no wonder Fukunaga ruled out a return - Harrelson later claimed that 16-hour days were the norm. For season two, True Detective will be made in a more usual way for TV, with multiple directors taking on the individual episodes.
