20 Mind-Blowing Facts You Never Knew About True Detective

10. It Took Just 4 Takes To Get The 6-Minute Tracking Shot Right

In order to create an atmosphere of €œdread and suspense€, director Cary Fukunaga decided he wanted an extended tracking shot at the end of episode four, in the scene where Cohle €“ undercover as €˜Crash€™ €“ goes on an ill-fated raid with Ginger and his biker gang. The moment shows off a feat of filmmaking that€™s already become legendary in the realm of television, and though Fukunaga would get the shot right by just take four, it was never going to be easy. €œWe required the involvement of every single department, like a live theatre show€, said Fukunaga. €œWe had make-up artists hiding in houses so they could dash out and put make-up on Ginger's head... we had stunt guys coordinating with stunt drivers to pull up at the right time, special-effects guys outside throwing foam bricks and firing live rounds.€
