20 More TV Shows That Are Practically Flawless
8. Buffy The Vampire Slayer
Buffy the Vampire Slayer started airing during the big TV boom of the late 90s, where every major show was being headlined by a man with a murky past and questionable morals. Having Buffy Summers on-screen, saving the world from the supernatural whilst combating the trials of high school, made for a refreshing sight.
Headlined by Sarah Michelle Gellar in the title role, the horror-drama initially used a thrilling monster-of-the-week formula to tell its story, pitting Buffy and her friends against a new villain every week before the finale forced them to face off an altogether more menacing evil.
Written with quirky humour but unafraid to hurt its characters with personal tragedy, Buffy the Vampire Slayer was dark, violent, empowering and fun, always challenging itself to be better and feel fresh. Despite recent controversies, its timelessness and message makes it far bigger than its controversial creator, as it always was.
