20 More TV Shows That Are Practically Flawless
5. Curb Your Enthusiasm
The most remarkable thing about Larry David's meta sitcom Curb Your Enthusiasm is that, for all its witty assessments of the minutiae of the everyday, the vast majority of episodes are filmed using a technique called retroscripting, where David gives the cast an outline of the episode's intentions, and they improvise the comedy around it.
Starring David as a fictionalised, semi-retired version of himself, the sitcom focusses on the comedian as he fumbles through life, awkwardly misunderstanding the simple, unspoken rules laid out by society. He's joined by a variety of guest stars, most of them playing fictionalised versions of themselves, too.
Much like Seinfeld, Curb Your Enthusiasm's brilliance comes from its simplicity and unorthodox characters, who're all the more hilarious because of their unsettling flaws and social ineptitude. Hopefully David and the gang return for a twelfth season soon.
