20 More TV Shows That Are Practically Flawless
4. Angel
It may not be as exciting or beloved as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but as a show Angel does feel more consistent and compelling, especially where its main characters and central conflicts are concerned. This was a show that took what inspired it and dug into its darkest parts to create something altogether more dramatic.
At the centre of the story is Angel (David Boreanaz) himself, a vampire with a soul who lurks in the shadows of L.A fighting the forces of darkness. His sordid journey into apocalypses and ancient prophecies also comes complete with some of the franchise's richest characters, including the tragic Fred and former watcher Wesley.
A complex tale of redemption, loss, and heroism, Angel took one of Buffy's best characters and used his past to great effect, whilst expanding on the world Buffy created in a series of fresh and unexpected ways. It may have been depressing at times, but hell if didn't make for near-perfect TV at its best.
