20 Most Bizarre Moments In Doctor Who History

20. The Opening Titles For K-9 And Company

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hu7OiJpnlUs The first entry is for the short-lived 1981 spin off, K-9 and Company, rather than for the main series. But since it's a spin off featuring two of the most iconic companions in Doctor Who's history, it feels like it should count. The titles for the abortive pilot episode are an exercise in unintended strangeness. Contained within this hilariously bad sequence is a shot of Sarah Jane Smith sitting at an office desk drinking a glass of wine... in front of a pub. Let's be clear. She's not on a terrace or patio or in a beer garden, any of which would be reasonable places to sip a beverage in the great outdoors. She's precariously squeezed into a narrow porch-like space that sports a single desk which the crew have all-too-obviously put there purely for the filming. When the camera zooms in for her close up, Elisabeth Sladen has cold, dead eyes that seem to scream out "How in God's name did I get talked into doing this?". She also stands by the side of the road reading a newspaper in these titles, for no readily discernible reason whatsoever. The paper is a broadsheet, of course. She has standards.
