Netflix have ordered a female-driven dramedy based on Stephanie Land's bestselling memoir Maid: Hard Work, Low Pay, and a Mother’s Will to Survive. The upcoming show will chronicle the struggles Land described, dramatising it through fictional character Alex - a single mother that must turn to housekeeping in order to make ends meet. Moreover, it's described as a 'beautiful, alive, gritty, and inspiring exploration of poverty in America'.
The series will be produced by Margot Robbie's LuckyChap Entertainment and stars Margaret Qualley as the aforementioned protagonist. It also reunites her with her Native Son and Strange But True co-star Nick Robinson - who plays the male lead - and the supporting cast features the legendary Andie MacDowell (Qualley's mother), Anika Noni Rose and Billy Burke.
It's unknown when we can expect the show, but as production doesn't conclude until March, it probably won't be making its presence felt on Netflix until summer at the earliest. Thankfully, it sounds like it will be well worth the wait.
