8. The Motel Fight - Preacher

Ghost Rider
AMC

Preacher is based on the much-loved graphic novel by Garth Ennis, which spent years in development hell when directors like Sam Mendes and Mark Steven Johnson tried to turn it into a movie, but to no avail. Surprisingly it was Seth Rogen who finally got it moving as a producer, in addition to directing the pilot.

It was uneven at times, but it also had great scenes and perfect casting. The undoubted highlight was the motel fight scene, where Jesse and the rogue angels fight another angel. It’s basically a gory live-action cartoon, and each time an angel died they teleport in with a new body, resulting in a lot of corpses piling up real quick.

It’s worth pausing a few times to make sense of the carnage, and while the show sometimes struggled to find the right balance between horror and comedy, this scene was a perfect blend.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
