The Moment: After countless seemingly symbolic references to the island being a "cork" that holds back a destructive force, it's revealed at the show's conclusion that the cork is not just a metaphor: the Heart of the Island is in fact a giant stone cork that stops the island from sinking into the ocean and causing a global catastrophe. Why It Had To Be Paused: Because after sticking with Lost for 6 seasons, it just felt like audiences deserved better than...a cork and a freaking tunnel of light. Few could quite believe their eyes that the writers were lazy enough to throw something as silly as a giant cork into the mix, and watching both Desmond (Henry Ian Cusick) and Jack (Matthew Fox) wrestle with it proved more unintentionally hilarious than dramatic or exciting. After expecting something truly mind-blowing, this just had to be paused, so viewers could soak in what they were watching and allow their angry disappointment to subside a little before they could try and enjoy the remainder of the episode.
