20 Things You Didn't Know About Friends

4. They Have A Crew Of Mysterious Stalkers

If you€™re a complete Friends nut, you may have already noticed this: the gang are being stalked by a trio of nutcases in the first four seasons on the show. Towards the end of the first season, in The One With The Fake Monica, Joey auditions for the role of Mercutio in Romeo & Juliet, and gives his name as Holden McGroin. The people he€™s auditioning for are only seen from behind€ but they reappear in full on location while he€™s shooting as an extra on Outbreak 2: The Virus Takes Manhattan in season two€™s The One After The Superbowl. When Joey tries to attract the attention of the director with some histrionic improvisation, all three are standing nearby. That€™s not so unexpected€ except that at the beginning of season three, the gang all enter Central Perk to discover that their favourite orange couch is already taken, and, disconcerted, leave the coffee shop entirely to go somewhere else. The people who€™ve taken their spot? The same three people. Finally, to make it even more unnerving, the woman in the trio is sitting behind Joey and Chandler when they€™re touring London on an open top bus in season four€™s The One With Ross€™s Wedding! The three are, of course, series showrunners Marta Kauffman, David Crane and Kevin Bright, who tried to insert themselves into the show as in-jokes here and there for the first few years. These are the only times we know about €“ if you€™ve spotted one or all of the three anywhere else in the show€™s history, let us know in the comments and we€™ll give you 500 Internet Points.
