20 TV Acting Performances That Are Totally Flawless

16. Reese Witherspoon - Big Little Lies

Tony Soprano The Sopranos
HBO

If HBO's excellent drama is anything, it's an actor's showcase. Nicole Kidman, Shailene Woodley, Zoe Kravitz, Laura Dern, Meryl Streep, Alexander Skarsgard and Adam Scott all starred in the tantalising small town mystery, and each brought their A-game to give some of their best on-screen work.

But perhaps the most accomplished member of the cast - which is saying a lot - was Reese Witherspoon, who played ringleader Madeline Mackenzie with enough sass, wit and charisma to put her co-stars to shame.

On the surface, Big Little Lies wass written in such a way to make Madeline one of the more simple and easy to understand of the core group, but through a series of killer twists and Witherspoon's wickedly energetic performance, it became clear that she was actually just as complex as those around her.

Never failing to say what's on her mind and put people in their place, Madeline was the glue holding everyone else together, and Reese Witherspoon made her a joy to watch from start to finish.
