20 TV Acting Performances That Are Totally Flawless

17. Ted Danson - Cheers

Tony Soprano The Sopranos
CBS Television Distribution

From one comedy legend to another, Ted Danson made his way into the hearts of audiences worldwide thanks to his immeasurably iconic turn as Sam Malone in the masterful sitcom Cheers, which ran for eleven seasons and spawned two hit spin-offs, including Frasier.

The owner of the show's titular bar, Sam Malone was charming and confident, but lost under a thin veil of alcoholism and frequent womanising. Danson had the tough job of making Malone a brazen ladies' man but also a likeable protagonist who could bring the show's ensemble together, and through spotless comedic timing and ample vulnerability, he did just that.

At once the heart and soul of Cheers, Sam Malone was also its most complex and difficult character, but thanks to some top tier writing and Danson's multi-award winning performance, he always managed to be one of TV's most brilliant creations.

I get to write about what I love, so that's pretty cool. Every great film should seem new every time you see it. Be excellent to each other.
