20 TV Show Finales That Are Totally Flawless

10. Goodbye, Farewell And Amen - MASH

106 million people watched Goodbye, Farewell and Amen when it aired back in 1983, and due to the rise of streaming services and the increase in shows currently on the go, that record-breaking viewership will most likely never be beaten.

MASH, much like Scrubs years later, was a show capable of balancing horrific drama with light and breezy comedy, as it followed the medical staff of a war-torn hospital during the Korean War.

In the series finale, the lines are blurred like never before between comedy and drama, as series lead Hawkeye Pierce (Alan Alda, who also directed) is sent to a psychiatric hospital after suffering a breakdown over the things he's seen during the war. Meanwhile, the rest of the staff prepare to leave the hospital, the conflict having come to an end.

Anchored by a devastating performance from Alda and finishing with the unforgettable image of "Goodbye" written on the grounds of the hospital, MASH's send-off defined an entire generation, and remains today one of the most daring and heartwrenching finales ever made.
