20 TV Show Finales That Are Totally Flawless

14. Made In America - The Sopranos

Look up "divisive finale", and chances are you'll find a picture of Tony Soprano (the late, great James Gandolfini) staring up at the diner door, looking to see who's just intruded on his family meeting.

Made In America ends The Sopranos in particularly frustrating, inspired style. Much like Justified earlier on the list, it's a finale that knows when to speed things up and slow things down, allowing Tony to end his feud with Phil Leotardo (Frank Vincent), bid farewell to a comatose Silvio (Steven Van Zandt), and have one last, sorry chat with his dementia-suffering uncle Junior (Dominic Chainese).

Equal parts brutally violent, emotionally draining and gasp-inducing at every twist, Made In America is brilliant without fault, but will always be remembered for that final shot.

Ambiguity tends not to go over well with TV audiences, but given The Sopranos' love for cliffhangers, dead-end stories (Melfi's assault, the events of Pine Barrens) and shock twists, its final shot makes perfect sense. Like the rest of the series, Made In America is TV drama at its finest, and the fact that people are still talking about it all these years later proves how truly great it is.
