20 TV Show Finales That Are Totally Flawless

15. Part 18 - Twin Peaks: The Return

To say that Twin Peaks: The Return is a confounding, even frustrating show would be a major understatement, but therein lies its brilliance.

Much like the previous seventeen episodes, Part 18 is far from a simple ride into the minds of writers David Lynch and Mark Frost, focusing on Dale Cooper (Kyle MacLachlan) as he attempts to stop the infamous murder of Laura Palmer (Sheryl Lee) despite the impossibly powerful forces standing in his way.

It's a mind-bending, time-manipulating mystery of a finale, complete with unforgettable performances, viscerally disturbing twists and a final cliffhanger which is sure to keep people talking for years to come (until Lynch goes ahead with another season, that is. Fingers crossed).

Though not for everyone, for those who understand the sheer batsh*t insanity of Twin Peaks, its central mysteries, mythology, and impressive world-building, Part 18 is a more than satisfying send-off for the series, and really hammers home just how unconventional and challenging a visionary Lynch truly is.
