15. The Good Place

Imagined by sitcom legend Michael Schur (creator of Parks and Rec and Brooklyn Nine-Nine), The Good Place can best be described as a work of mad genius, daring to form a zany situational comedy around the existence of an afterlife, and the very idea of what it means to be human.

Starring Kristen Bell as a recently-deceased woman desperate to find her way to the Good Place but thwarted at every turn by a crooked system and the meddling of Ted Danson's conflicted demon Michael, the series used complex philosophical ideas to create a rich tapestry of ludicrous humour and heartbreaking drama.

The Good Place, at its best, could make you cry with laughter and in sadness in a single episode, all the while debating the issues of life, death and identity with thought-provoking honesty and life-changing results. Facing your own mortality has never looked as good as this.
